Northwest Bible Baptist Church had another wonderful Lord’s Day! We were blessed to see 15 people saved this morning and 6 come forward for baptism. We also had the privilege of having Pastor Woody Baumgartner and his wife, Carol, with us today while Preacher and Mrs. Gomez are on their anniversary trip in Africa for a short time.
Pastor Baumgartner taught on “The Cycles of Life” for Sunday School, his morning message was “Two Types of Sorrow,” and tonight he spoke to us on “Lessons from the Fire.” Pastor and Mrs. Baumgartner lost their home to a fire on May 11 of this year. He shared some amazing testimony of what God has done for them through this trial in their lives. Tonight he showed Northwest some photos of their destroyed home as he spoke from Isaiah 61:3, “…to give unto them beauty for ashes.” He testified of how God has truly blessed them throughout this difficult time and most importantly, he learned just how precious it is to truly keep your focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. Pastor and Mrs. Baumgartner were such a blessing to our church!
Josh has had a busy week. Although he does miss his mom and dad right now, Ashley, Jason and their families are taking very good care of him. He has been eating very well the last few days which helps him to be able to stay warmer. He’s been doing great in his rehab sessions, especially his speech therapy. This therapy also involves memory recall. Stories are read to Josh which he must recall to the therapist. He’s doing very well with this. Tomorrow he will be doing some Math! (Pray for him…apparently Math was never a favorite subject of his!)
Josh did try one of his old tricks…he’s a pretty good manipulator, says Big Sister! He tried to con his way out of his rehab session on Friday. She saw through that right away and let him know that she had no plans on getting in trouble with Dad, so Josh had no choice but to obey Big Sister!
He is still very sore, especially his neck. But tomorrow he will also begin chiropractic treatments which should help relieve some of the pain he is experiencing. He takes very limited amounts of pain medication, but he has had a couple of restless nights and he seems to be worn out during the day. Please pray that he would be able to get better sleep at night. He wants to stay awake and alert during the day in hopes that he’ll sleep better at night. He gets very frustrated with himself because he feels it takes him so long to do things. Mentally he is there; but physically, he is not. He is also having difficulty relating to “time” and understanding how much time has passed between certain events.
Ashley says that Josh’s hearing is very sensitive. She is amazed at what he is able to hear (i.e. washer and dryer or the garage door opening, etc.). She says the biggest blessing at this point is that he does have an appetite and he is eating again, which is so very important to his overall health.
We thank all of you for your continued prayers for Josh as he heals, and for Pastor & Mrs. Gomez as they enjoy a much-needed time away together for their anniversary.
