It was a very somber service at Northwest Bible Baptist Church last evening as I informed my people of Mrs. Gomez' condition of adenocarcinoma cancer and the fact that she has about 4-6 weeks to live. I could see on the faces of all those whom I have loved these past 25 years just how much their hearts were broken and crushed with the news I brought to them.
Hundreds of people signed up or phoned in for an appointment to say goodbye to their First Lady. This afternoon and evening has been busy with many families who have stopped in for a very brief 2 minute visit. This is very taxing on Mrs. Gomez
and we must space out the many more folks who still desire to see her.
The medication that Mrs. Gomez is on has been changed from Morphine to another medicine which the doctors feel will give her more relief. Today she has been suffering from nausea when she smells food. We are trying to care for this with an air purifier. Although Sunday was a wonderful day for her, today has not been. She didn't feel she would need as much of the pain medicine early in the day, and that has set her back some. We hope after a good night's sleep, she will be feeling much better tomorrow.
Today we are hearing from pastors all over the country who are either driving in or flying in to see Mrs. Gomez. Her parents, as well as my parents, all flew in today and arrived at the house in time for a delicious meal which was prepared by our good church members. My sisters will fly in on Wednesday also. As our church members are visiting, many of them are bringing in needed items. They have been such a tremendous blessing to us at this time.
We ask that you continue to pray for Mrs. Gomez and my family and for me. We all are in need of sleep, but sleep is hard to come at this time. I love you and thank you for loving my family.
